W14 Celebrate Your Life

This weeks post is reflective. It will include my main takeaways from this 14 week entrepreneurial course. The first takeaway- I still cannot spell entrepreneur without the help of spell check...

  • if you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share?
    • My final lecture would be on resilience. This is a highly important skill if you want to find success as an entrepreneur. Failures are part of the process of growth an learning. Whether big or small, failure will happen. Take accountability, learn from the experience, and try again.
  • What would be your last bit of advice to someone wanting to begin the entrepreneur journey?
    • I feel so new and fresh on my entrepreneurial journey- so I feel like a rookie giving advice to a fellow rookie. That being said, I would say- take the time to read. Reading of others entrepreneurial journey's gave me courage and energy to start. Additionally, reading will enable you to cut down on mistakes because you are learning from others. I am not a big reader. I wish I had different advice. However, even a five minute read in a journal on entrepreneurship a day will be beneficial. Stay curious, ask questions, read, and find the answers.
  • What words of advice, direction, or caution would you give him or her if you had only one chance to give your own last lecture?
    • With my last lecture being on resilience, my word of caution would be to not anchor yourself in false hope. Being naively optimistic or expecting things to work out negates accountability. You need to plan for things to succeed. This means have a dream, and work to make it reality. Be realistic and optimistic, with a willingness to pivot when the market changes or things go differently than you planned. This is important because things almost always go differently than you plan. This is part of resilience. Gain confidence by putting the work into growing your skills. This is done with a mix of having a hearty work ethic and being willing to fake it till you make it. As you go on the journey and have experiences, you will learn the skills in order to succeed- even if that success doesn't seem to come right away. Lastly, keep your priorities straight- remember why you are on this journey. For me, I am on an entrepreneurial journey in order to have the life I want with my family. Everything I do is linked back to providing for and creating meaningful moments and opportunities for my family.
